2003 Ford Mustang Couple Ongoing Problems Gt Most Important One Moment Would

I have a couple ongoing problems with my GT, the most important one at the moment would be when going to accelerate to highway speeds, If I stomp on the gas to rip really fast onto the highway my RPM and engine will rev way up but the car won't accelerate and even randomly lag during this, it's a horrible feeling. any help would be appreciated. my personal guess would be something to do with the fuel system? thanks.
