A few weeks ago my wife and I where driving, was cold out and going about 40mph when we heard what sounded like gravel hitting the car (but there was none on the road) and the car just died. Would not restart. I knew the idler pully was going bad and when I replaced it, the barrings where gone. Still no start. It turns over like normal and even tries to start but just can't get there. I have replaced the fuel filter, plugs, cam position sensor and still no luck. I have good spark, fuel pressure and compression. The cam is turning when cranking so don't think its a timing belt. When it is turning it almost sounds like it's trying to fire on the #3 cylinder. Was thinking about replacing the crank position sensor but wanted to check before I do. Anything you would suggest I look at as I'm at a loss

What is the exact compression?

The timing belt needs to be checked.

I'm sorry, I do not remember what the compression numbers where, and at this time cant afford to have it done again. I do feel after everything I've done and looked at that the barrings for the timing belt tensioner have come out and thus not the correct tension on the belt. I plan on doing the timing belt and replacing the tensioner within the next few weeks, so will keep ya posted.

Thanks for the reply!
