Ford Explorer Engine Problem

On cold morning starts the engine has begun "lurching", an audible, cyclical revving up and down noise that rocks the whole truck- as if I were quickly pulsing the accelerator. Stops as soon as I get above 5 mph. Seems to run fine otherwise. What could this be and does it warrant a visit to my mechanic?

is the check engine light on???

could be a vacuum leak or a bad idle control valve.

it will warrant a visit to track down the exact failure
