I have an 03 ford explorer. This morning I drove approx 3 miles to the baby sitters with no troubles at all. I lef tthe truck running while I brought my daughter in, talked for approx 5 min or so and then went back out to leave. The truck was still running fine, but I could not get the gears to engage out of Park. so I turned of the engine and restarted....but it was now dead. When I would turn the key all the gauges went all the way left then back down. at this point the steering wheel would not lock, but I could turn the key and get the gear shifter to switch gears. I got it jump started and had the same problem, no engaging out of Park. also none of the gauges were working, there was a rough idle and when I would press the gas it would not revv up. it seems electrical to me....hopefully a fuse of some sort?

The first thing i would have checked is the battery then the alternator once you get the battery taken care of.I think you have a bad battery and or bad alternator.Let me know what you find.

Well when I got it jumped I had spark from my battery before i got it jumped, so that would indicate to me that it was still ok.

You cant tell if a battery is good just because it sparked that just means it had a partial charge and doesnt mean it will load test good and that your alternator is charging. We have to make sure that your battery is good before we can even start to test your alternator to see if its good.If you want you can check all your fuses but your going to have to also have the battery tested you had to have it jump started and it sounds like there isnt enough voltage to power all the systems in your explorer.Let me know what you find.
