2003 Buick Rendezvous Repair Question

Buick Rendezvous Body Problem
When first starting in the morning, when I put car in drive the engine races. I then drop down to third and then back to drive. Then transmission works fine rest of day till next morning and cold again.

sounds like a valve body issue. when was the last time you changed the oil/filter in the trans??
