I had my car in the wrong automatic gear for 15 miles. After 3 the engine light came on?

I figured the gears out after 15 miles and the engine light was still on. I just bought the car a day ago and this was what happened after I left the dealer

did you return to the dealer for a check up?? do you have a 30 day warranty??

we need the code from the check engine light to further help

I bought a warranty for 3 years 36000 miles.... is there a way I can find the code for free

parts store will pull it for free. dont let them sell you anything as they are salesman, not techs.

use your warranty and have the dealer fix it.

It is a automatic... but there is three ways u can have it in.. one is shift it through 1, 2, 3, 4 another is in d5(+-) which it was in or in full auto D5

Normal driving would be in D5 and the transmission would do the work for you.

Unless there is a problem, otherwise there is no such thing as in the wrong gear for this transmission.

I had it in the D5 (+-) gear instead of the regular D5 not knowing any better like a idiot. And didnt shift in that gear

In this position, it would not upshift but when you stop, it would downshift to 1st so I don't see any problem with that.

Anyway since the MIL came on, get a scan to retrieve the trouble codes and let us know what it is.
