my engine ratlles on start up and about 30 seconds then stops and drives smooothly thereafter. why the rattling noise?

IT could be a few things. Is the oil clean and full? As far as the noise, it is hard for me to diagnose without hearing it. It could be something loose, a collapsed lifter, bearing noise... You need to find a mechanic with a trained ear that will take a minute and listen to it. Or, you can upload a video of the vehicle being started so I can try to hear the noise.
