My 02 altima - And when I try it makes a weird sound like its overworking, what could be the cause?, I took it on the highway and when I tried going over 65 it started making a weird noise under the hood like it was overworking, and it wouldn't accelerate more than that. I noticed the oil is dirty and low so Ill change that, but could that even cause this? if not what could it be?

Could be a plugged catalytic converter. Have it scanned for codes.

Thanks Mike,

The check engine light isn't on or anything, will it still show codes?

Yes. There are 2 kinds of codes. First are hard codes, which cause the CEL to light. Soft codes don't cause the light to come on, but can still affect engine performance.

I recently bought a 02 altima too and experienced similar problem. But, found out that i was sometimes driving in 3 gear instead of Drive.
