Hi there, my truck is making a grinding noise when driving! Also the airbag light stays on while driving, the 4wd lights come on and off when driving, radio switches on and off, the headlights dont work and the speedometer also doesnt work! I had a auto electrician tell me its the altenator? But does it make a grinding sound when driving?

Everything you mentioned can be caused by the generator, and that would be my first guess. If it has bad bearings, you'll hear it with the engine running but the vehicle isn't moving. Open the hood and listen next to it. If you can't tell where the noise is originating from, use a stethoscope. All auto parts stores have them. Harbor Freight Tools has them too for less than ten bucks.

There is a tool you might be able to borrow or rent from an auto parts store that borrows them called the "Chassis Ear". It is a set of six microphones, a switch box, and headphones. You clip the microphones to suspect points, then drive around while listening with the headphones. You can move the microphones around to zero in on the source of the noise. Be aware that many mechanics have never seen or even heard of this tool. Suspension and alignment mechanics use it to find rattles, squeaks, and other noises.
