Initially car had to have the crankshaft position sensor replaced. After starting and running fine for 2-3 weeks it died while driving. Obviously we checked fuel and found out there was no fuel being delivered. We checked the connector to the pump and saw it was getting 12 volts like normal so we figured the pump was bad. After further looking towards the pump we noticed it was still properly working at times. When you first turn your key over the first click the car instantly kicks enough fuel to fill the lines and after you turn it over to start it is when it fully powers the pump. Our problem is is that it's giving no initial power to fill the lines but then gives power. What could cause it to not give initial power? Also the security system acts funny (when unlocked with the keyless or key in the door the door unlocks but when you open the door the alarm comes on). Could this be a security auto shut off problem or just a pump problem? What's your thoughts? And thanks.

I had a hard time following everything but to get you started, the fuel pump is supposed to run for one second when you turn on the ignition switch, then it turns on again during engine rotation, (cranking or running). The Engine Computer knows the engine is turning by the pulses it receives from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.

If you have an anti-theft system problem, that will stop the fuel pump and / or injectors. The engine typically runs for two seconds each time you try to start it.

Hi. My daughter has a 2002 Dodge stratus. It wont turn over with the key? I can jump a wire to the starter and it will turn over but not start:( I can't hear the fuel pump hum so I'm guessing that is why it wont start. It ran fine until one day this just hsppened. She walked out and got nothing. All headlights, blowers, etc are working. I'm assuming that the lack of power only to the starter and fuel pump happening at the exact same time are related. My question is what can cause this? And I checked all the fuses. Haha! The only other info I can add is that after switching the key on off multiple times I got a no bus under the odometer. Furthermore, it isn't throwing any codes:( Thanks in advance for your help!

You need to start a new question specific to your vehicle and problem. Unlike other sites where anyone can add a reply, this was a conversation between two people. It shows up on our list now as having received a reply, so none of the other experts are going to see your addition or have a chance to reply. That won't get you the help you need.

Please be sure to list the transmission type, mileage, and especially the engine size. The different engines use very different ignition systems. We need to know these specifics when looking up a wiring diagram.
