YOUR RIG IS 10 YEARS OLD

HAS IT BEEN BABIED THE WHOLE TIME?

WAS THIS A SUDDEN OCCURRENCE?

ANYTHING HAPPEN JUST PRIOR TO HEARING IT?

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THE UNIT WAS SERVICED?

FLUID LEVEL CHECKED?

INSPECTED FOR LEAKS?

I am not sure, I just purchased the car it has a roaring sound coming from the rear not sure if there are or were any leaks. To my knowledge it had three or four owners. What are some possible problems associated with it will it be expensive to fix?

IF IT SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE CENTER OF THE CAR, LIKE UNDER THE BACK SEAT

COULD BE LOW ON GEAR OIL

WORN OR DAMAGED RING AND PINION

CARRIER BEARINGS

PINION BEARINGS--YOU MIGHT SEE THIS IF YOU PARK IT ON FLAT TERRAIN, CHOCK THE WHEELS SO IT CANNOT ROLL EITHER WAY (MIGHT HAVE TO JACK UP THE REAR) PUT IT IN NEUTRAL

SEE IF THE YOKE GOING INTO THE DIFF HAS IN/ OUT MOVEMENT OR WOBBLE----CHECK YOUR U-JOINTS TOO

Also, check to see if the noise changes when making turns. It could be related to a bad axle bearing.

okay thanks, someone told me it could be the axle itself, said that the axle probably wasn't heat fixed.

I'm not sure what they mean by "heat fixed."
