I have a 2001 vw beetle. It will go in 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th. It just don't want to go in 2nd. What could this be

IF you can select 2nd with the engine off, and it feels like a firm positive engagement, but you can't select with the engine running, you may have a failed synroc, change the oil and look for metal in the oil.
