2001 Vauxhall Astra Repair Question

Vauxhall Astra Smoke Problem
My car is a 1.7 dti just put a recon engine in when first started smoke came out of the water reservois and when i put the cap on it started to whistle until i released the cap again. do you have any ideas what this might be. thank you

Smoke or steam? you may have an air lock in the cooling system, ensure that it is bleed of air first.

i am not sure if it is smoke or steam i think smoke as it comes out when first started to make sure how can i bleed the air out of the system? thank you again

have car on incline nose high if you can, add coolant to top of tank open heater and run till system at normal temp and heater is hot, see how you go, by the way i play a tenor sax my self........
