Check engine light on and flashes when under a load. VSC off, VSC trac lights on. Back firing, poor gas mileage. Sputtering and lack of power without punching it. Replaced the gas filter with no positive results.

When the check engine light comes on it means there's something the computer wants to tell you. Have the computer scanned for codes. This will eliminate the guess work.

If the light is flashing. This means that there is the possibility of doing damage to the catalytic converter. You should have the codes read and issue repaired before you have to buy a very expensive catalytic converter. Usually when the engine light is flashing, it means you have a misfire in one of the cylinders

Also, keep in mind there could be more than one code and those codes don't always mean a component has failed. You'll need to check the wires/connectors for looseness, dirt, broken terminals, etc.
