How to replace the antenna on a 2001 saab 9-3

Antenna, Electric

To remove

Remove the clips on the left-hand side trim by the rear light cluster and undo the screws securing the loudspeaker grille.
Fold back the trim.

Unscrew the nut on the antenna base and the two screws securing the antenna
Unplug the antenna cable.
Unplug the connector on the bracket. Undo the two screws securing the electric antenna and detach the drain hose below the rear lamp.
Remove the antenna from the bracket.
To fit
Fit in reverse order.

Antenna rod

To remove

Remove the antenna.

Undo the screws securing the antenna tube and pull out the tube.

Connect the motor to a 12 V battery and wait until the motor has stopped with the antenna extended. Then, carefully pull out the antenna tube rack from the motor.

Push the new rack into the motor with the teeth facing the motor. Apply a little grease to the rack.
Reconnect the motor to the battery at the same time as the rack is carefully pushed in.
NOTE: Connect the positive supply to the battery intermittently to make it easier to insert the rack.

Disconnect the battery when the whole rack has been inserted.
Fit the antenna tube. Make sure the tube is turned the right way.
To fit
Fit the antenna.

Antenna, fixed

To remove

Remove the clips on the left-hand side trim by the rear light cluster and undo the screws securing the loudspeaker grille.
Fold back the trim.

Unplug the antenna cable.
Unscrew the nut on the antenna base and lift out the antenna from the inside.
To fit
Fit in reverse order.

Antenna, fixed (Viggen 3D/5D)

To remove

Fold down the rear seat backrest.

Remove the loudspeaker grilles from the left and right-hand sides of the parcel shelf.
Remove the C pillar trim on left and right-hand sides.

Remove the rear left and right-hand courtesy handles.
Remove the two plastic clips and lower the headlining. Exercise care when handling the headlining as it can easily break.

Unplug the cables that are connected to the antenna.
Undo the nut by the antenna base and lift out the antenna from the inside.
To fit

Fit the antenna from inside and secure with the nut.
Connect the cables to the antenna.

Lift up the headlining and fasten with the plastic clips.
Fit the rear left and right-hand courtesy handles.

Fit the trim to the left and right-hand C pillars.
Fit the left and right-hand loudspeaker grilles to the parcel shelf.
Raise the rear seat backrest.
