I have a 2001 pontiac sunfire. Enguine does not turn over. Replaced the starter and still get nothing. No clicking just silence. Ruling out 3 problems. Ignition switch which was recalled. Key lock cylinder or starter solenoid, not quite sure which one, the only way to start the car is to jump in with cables and arc the starter. Went out and bought a battery recharge kit. Hoping that its just the battery not holding charge bc it sat so long, about a month. Not sure what to do and want to make sure I do the right thing before I fork out al this money for something that wont fix it

Take the battery and have it tested also make sure the battery cables are clean and tight. Let me know what you find.

Ok so went and hooked the battery up to a charger and it charged for 4 hours and is fully charged. Replaced the battery terminals with gold plated ones(is side battery) going to put it back in the car this after noon and try and start it, I dont think it will start though bc it doesnt start hooked to jumper cables and yesterday when we hooked it up and let it charge for a bit the battery light on the dash went out and before it would stay lit. We were able to drive it without it stalling out because we found out that the positve wire wasnt hooked up and that was causing the alternator not to work.

Positive wire on the starter is what I meant. If your looking down into the car its on the left side and its a green wire I believe it runs to the fuse box and comes from the alternator.
