my car starts rough and the idle is sporadic sometimes it dies. once im driving it sputters from time to time

I have figured out that there is gas that comes out of the fuel pressure regulator when I shut it off and while I was checking around, I found that the map sensor was unplugged I plugged it in and I don't think it made much difference. Do you have any ideas to point me in the right direction? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
