Need to know what code 44 is

I have a 2001 Mitsubshi eclipse flashing a code 44 what is that, no noise no smell was driving to work everything seemed normal

Code 44 is usually an ignition signal fault and often associated with a miss fire, I would at the first instance have the code cleared and see if it re sets, if so we will look into it a bit further, as a precaution get the ignition electrical harness checked for any loose connections and corroded pins.

Thank you so much for that info, maybe I should have added the car started fine that morning and I was actually driving it surged, mabe thats not the correct word it hestatated a bit than nothing, the car does not and will not move in any gear, when I put it in drive that when the nuetral light started flashing, I had the car flat bedded home and my husband and son in law saw the code flash

To early to jump to any rash conclusions, these problems must be fully diagnosed first, I would be considering an engine management / ignition problem is the most problem cause.
