We just installed a new radiator so my son could get home from school for break, when we took the car to our own mechanic for routine matience he said we need to replace the head gasket and it isnt safe to drive the transmission is also catching at 25 mph about 35% of the time. I want to know if I am better off putting this large amount of repairs into a car this age, is there any less expensive fix for the head gasket that might get him through until I can either afford to replace it or the transmission goes out?

Fixing it is a personal choice.

The head gasket failed from your radiator overheating from the sounds of it.

Do not use sealers or gasket repair additives as they never work and cause more issues.
