2001 chevy s10 4.3

Won't start. Cranks over fine and will run for 2 seconds up to 500rpm than dies off right away. I can do this 20 times and same results but than all of a sudden it will fire up and run fine like nothing is wrong. I changed the fuel pump a couple weeks ago and I just checked the fuel pressure I have 52psi and it will hold pressure for longer than 5 minutes with no drop so it's not leaking down anywhere. Obd code p0404 comes up (egr malfunction) should I replace the egr?

Egr could have carbon in it or the passageway is plugged. Your fuel pressure should be at 60 psi minimum. So check eger passageway first and egr valve. Fuel pressure is 60-66 psi so that may be your problem or a filter is clogged.
