I depress the gas pedel hard or floor it, as if passing a car or going up a hil, engine revs, I hear a whistle, transmision does not shift, car slows down, and check brake light comes on and stays on. If I gradually depress pedel gradually car shifts, speed increases, whistle sound is not heard.

Any codes in the computer? When it doesn't shift if you let up on the gas a little will it shift?You could have a plugged cat?

Yes, it changes gears. I checked the cat, and is not pluggled
