Buick Park Avenue Battery Problem

My 85 yr old aunt called last night. Her battery went dead, she had it charged and took it and had a new battery installed. Her presets were all erased, and her fuel gauge no longer works. I explained how Keep Alive Memory works if external battery is used, but she also says this problem with the fuel gauge happened last time she had a battery issue, and a local shop charged her $80 to fix the fuel gauge problem.
My question, is there a fuse or an issue with the fuel gauge when the battery dies. Common sense tells me she got ripped off the first time. She lives in Wisconsin and I am 200 miles south.

i'm not real familiar with the buick system by ut bet this is what you need:
6. On premium DIC switch, press GAUGE button on DIC switch while observing DIC switch display cycle through all gauge messages. Press FUEL INFO button on DIC switch while observing DIC switch display
cycle through all fuel messages. Press ODO/TRIP button on DIC switch while observing DIC switch display cycle through all trip messages. Press RESET button on DIC switch while observing DIC switch
display cycle through all trip odometer should reset to zero. If any DIC switch feature does not operate properly or cycle through all messages, go to appropriate procedure for symptoms present. See
SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS. If all features are okay, go to next step.
this is the driver info center button

Sorry, but your response does not pertain to the BUICK system, therefore is of no help.
