Volkswagen Jetta Check engine light Problem
The check engine light is on and every time I start the car up a beep sound goes off. The dashboard then flashes something that says emission workshop. It flashes for a few seconds and then goes off. What does this mean?

Only a person with a scan tool can tell you what it means.... have it scanned.
Once you have the code, we can give you a "guess" as to what the problem is.
If you go to a VW Specialty shop, then there is no need to post back on this web site.
If you go to a parts store for a free scan (some offer this service, some don't), there is a possibility that their "generic scanner" will
not or can not retrieve all of the stored codes.

as Thomas said, parts stores are parts salesman, not techs. go to a real shop
