Hello, I have a 2000 Jetta GL 2.0 with 98000 miles. Today, when driving to work, the trunk lid light was on, so I stopped, go out and shut it. 30 seconds later, it opened itself. I got out and shut it. This happened 3 times over a few minutes. But then it stopped. I am unsure what is going on, this is the first time I have seen this happen. I am in Maine, and it is obviously quite cold right now-I don't think this would affect it. Any ideas on what is wrong. No, I'm not pushing the button by mistake on the remote or on the door. THANKS!

You have to replace the trunk harness. The wires are shorting together.

No problem.

You can cut open the protective loom/tape along the harness (cut right where the trunk hinge is) You'll see about a 5-6" long piece of protective plastic, remove that first, then make your cut along there. That is typically where the harness breaks.
