Is the motor that comes in a 2000 Toyota solara an interferance motor?

The timing belt broke so we took it to the shop and had it fixed, the mechanic told me that it wasnt an interferance motor, but now after driving it for a week it is making an awful clatter noise in the valve cover and shut off while driving and when you try to start it it will make a clicking noise but eventually starts

It is not an interference motor but sometimes damage can still occur. Not very often though. If the carnkshaft or camshaft positon sensors were damaged at all during repair that would cause the type of problem your having.
I would suggest getting the trouble codes pulled. Any Auto Zone or Advance Auto will do this for free.
