2000 Pontiac Grand Past Couple Days Car Started On First Turn Over Abruptly

The past couple of days my car has started on the first turn over then abruptly died. It starts again and then abruptly dies. Then it starts and runs fine. I have been advised that my battery cranking power is low and the battery should be replaced. Any ideas?
