I have tried to remove the tube but am unable to do so. The car is a 2000 Mazda Protege L4. Do you have any suggestions of how I can remove the dipstick from the tube? Thanks

If you can see the end of the stick and it is plastic, drill a hole, then run in a self-tapping screw that you can grab with a needle nose pliers. If it is metal, drilling will just push it down further. Instead, use a Q-tip or toothpick to coat the inside of the tube with a light coating of grease, then mix up some epoxy or JB Weld and glue a stick to the end of the dipstick. After it sets up you can pull it out and the grease will prevent the glue from adhering to the tube.
