There is a squeaking noise that seems to be coming from inside the transmission. After having the van on the hoist and rotating the driveshaft by hand (van is in neutral) We have isolated the noise to be coming from inside the transmission. Any ideas about what this could possibly be would be appreciated. Fluid levels are good, and the van still shifts smoothly

This is on the 1999 Safari Had it checked out for free at the local Aamco they said the trans noise was more than likely a failing pump on the transmission the scan results were a code P0420A three way "cat" low efficiency B "1" it was also noted that the fuel guage shakes & "the under car checks" Transfer case shift linkage remarks "leaks fluid from half case"

If it's the pump, and it also has fluid leaks, it may be time for a rebuild, the P0420 is a converter efficiency code. O2 sensors are detecting a problem. Catalytic conveter may need replacing as well. You need to figure out if the van is worth the cost to repair it.
