When I turn my 2000 Taurus' wheels left, I get a noise that sounds like rubber against rubber. What's causing this? 180k miles - no prior suspension work.

Have it inspected at a tire and alignment shop. They will check the ball joints, struts, upper strut mounts, tie rod ends, and the rest of the steering and suspension parts. Be prepared to tell them where the noise appears to be coming from. If it only does it under certain conditions, such as in colder weather, try to bring the car there in those same conditions.
