Ford Ranger Fuel pressure Problem

I have a 2000, Ford Ranger, 4 cyclinder, standard transmission, with 109,000 miles on it. It has the original plugs, wires, ignition, etc. On two occassions, it would turn over but would not start. Both times were first thing in the morning when it was cold and damp. I gave it a shot of ether both times and it started right up and ran fine the rest of the day.
