There was a sudden hissing sound, like a leaking pneumatic hose, behind the center dashboard. Followed by a smell that resembled spraypaint/nail polish/nail polish remover. It happened two more times in the next five minutes. What to do? My vehicle now smells awful.

No smoke? Does air conditioning still work? Was it working before/while this happened?

If there was smoke a burning shorted wire can make a hiss sound as it melts from red hot heat of short. Is anything not working now?

A hissing noise will often be as vacuum leak, are all the vents working for the heating & A/C system.
