My son was driving his 2000 Escort and it stopped running while driving. When he tried to start it again the car would crank but not start. He said the check engine light had come on about 1-2 minutes before it died. I have checked the car and it has fuel pressure at the rail and is getting good spark. No burnt fuses or disconnected wires that I can find. Timing belt is intact along with acc. Belts. Any ideas where to go from here?

Check for applicable trouble codes. See if a code will point us in the right direction. To check codes, yourself, at the least you need an obd2 code reader. Your local autostore should have code readers for sale.
