If the timing jumped a tooth or two, would it still run and run bad?

This car sputters and shakes just sitting in the driveway at idle. It doesn't act like a misfire.

Check for vacuum leaks, check IAC, check fuel pump pressure. Also, let me know what engine you have.

Just visually inspect under the hood, listen for hissing noise when the engine is running, or use carb cleaner. See our homepage under the DIY section if you plan to use carb cleaner. I wrote a how to for safely using it and not starting a fire.
