REMOVAL
The water pump on all models can be replaced without discharging the air conditioning system.

NOTE: It is normal for the water pump to weep a small amount of coolant from the weep hole (black stain at weep passage). Do not replace the water pump if this condition exists. Replace the water pump if a heavy deposit or a steady flow of engine coolant is evident on side of the cylinder block from the weep hole passage (shaft seal failure). Be sure to perform a thorough analysis before replacing water pump.

WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE PRESSURE CAP WITH THE SYSTEM HOT AND PRESSURIZED. SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN RESULT.

Drain cooling system. Refer to Cooling System, Service and Repair, Service Procedures.
Remove upper radiator crossmember.
Remove fan module.
Remove accessory and air conditioning drive belts.

NOTE: The water pump is driven by the primary timing chain.

Remove crankshaft damper, timing chain cover, primary timing chain, and all chain guides. Refer to Engine for procedures.

Remove bolts attaching water pump to block.
Remove water pump and gasket.

INSTALLATION

Clean all sealing surfaces.
Install water pump and gasket. Tighten mounting bolts to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.).
Install timing chain guides, timing chain, timing chain cover, and crankshaft damper.
Install accessory drive belts.
Install fan module and upper radiator crossmember.
Fill cooling system.
