Hi I have a 1999 vw passat 1.8 20v reg num(kui3474) an am checkin prices for timing belts kits an was lookin to no if I need a hydraulic tensioner or manual an also do I have to replace the waterpump aswel

We only have the Turbo version of the 1.8L here in North America. And those came with the hydraulic tensioner.

Yours probably has the same setup, but both can be converted to the manual styles.

As for water pump, no, you do not have to do it at the same time, since it is not driven by the timing belt. So it can be changed at a later
time, with out having to touch the timing belt.
