1999 Volkswagen Jetta Repair Question
Mileage: 150,000 miles.
Volkswagen Jetta Transmission Problem
Answer
Fluid level is topped up at the little filler tube at the front of the transmission.
It should have a red "Security" seal around the cap.
You need to check fluid between an ATF temperature of 35c to 45c (use a scan tool to communicate with the Automatic Transmission
Control Module to determine temperature.
Once you are at the correct temperature, you need to remove the "fluid level check plug" at the bottom rear of the oil pan.
Fluid level is correct when fluid "drips out" between 35c to 45c.
Over filling or under filling can cause damage.
Not using the correct synthetic fluid can cause damage.

I can assure you that when it comes to Volkswagons exovcds is an expert. He knows them very well and has given you excellent advice. The most important of which is not to overfilll the transmission.
If it's the 5sp auto tranny... fluid is added through the same hole that the level is checked on (plug at bottom of pan).
The above instructions were for the 4sp 01M Transmission.
