I have a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire Coupe, when I got it the water temp. Gage light was on, and the temp gage would go up to half, until the fan kicked on, but sometimes it would go all the way up. I replaced the thermostat, and water temp sensor. Now the water temp gage climbs all the way up, and my check gages light comes on. Oh, and the water temp light is still on. What could it be?

Check fluid level first then check radiator for cold spots with engine off if you feel cold spots then rad is bad should be hot/warm allover. If that is ok then have coolant system pressure checked for internal leaks like a head gasket.

Fluid level is fine, doesn't lose fluid. So, I guessing head gasket is ruled out. I'm thinking it maybe radiator, or water pump. It does make a whining noise when it idles though.

The wining noise may be the alternator or accessory drive like belt/pulley or tensioner. Water pumps don't normally cause overheating unless they leak

You would think I have a charging problem, but it starts fine everytime. I bought a radiator for it so hopefully it takes care of the leak.
