I found the problem there was 4 bent rods we replaced them now the car will start up if you play with the throttle but it runs really rough and will shut off after you let off the gas also there was white smoke coming out the exhaust

Why were those bent?I have seen connecting rods for the pistons bend from coolant in the cylinders but not push rods.

I wanna say they was bent from not being put all the way in or mixing them up bc there are 2 different sizes

Also while trying to crank it is blowing back out the breather and sounds like a clicking noise coming from a valve in the back

I had my wife's brother come over (a mechanic) and he mentioned that a valve is bad could this be? And they did a compression test earlier they said all was good with that

To check for a valve not sealing you would use a cylinder leak down tester.Usually if there is bad valve burnt or otherwise it will show up on a compression test. Why did he come to a bad valve? Also how come your brother inlaw didnt help you with the project?I fix my brother inlaws cars for him and he helps me do it.
