306 hdi kicking out thick black smoke?
just bought a Pugeot 306 HDi. Car starts first time ticks over quietly. Drive around on light throttle for miles nice and smooth no problems THEN. I use a bit more throttle (pressume HDi turbo kicks in? Or not as is probably the case) anyways use more throttle car struggles to go and sounds rough and can't see ANYTHING out of the back window lots of thick black smoke ! Sounds slightly like a transit van. Take foot off throttle thou and smoke stops are engine is smooth again. So seems to me like turbo is in a bad way? Car will drive normal with light throttle up to any speed and starts first go?

Probable causes of an engine running rich are as follows:

1. Excessive fuel pressure can be cause by restricted fuel return line
2. Defective Oxygen Sensors.
3. Leaking injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
4. Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.
5. Restricted air intake system.
