I am having overheating issues

My 99 Olds Intrigue started overheating, had the thermostat replaced, but it is still overheating and now there is no heat coming out when its turned on. Was told the water pump is working fine. Any suggestions what I should be looking into further? The guy who is helping me with the repairs is going to be changing the upper radiator hose soon. Other than the thermostat and hose not sure what to be looking for. There is antifreeze in the radiator. He said that the water pump was working. I am pretty sure the head gasket is fine as I dont have signs of a blown one (no water in oil or oil in water and no steam coming out of tailpipe). I dont see any signs of a leak. I do smell hot antifreeze when the engine is overheating even though we are not letting it red line.

Check the cooling fan. The radiator may be clogged. The fact you smell coolant indicates a leak.

Have a dye inserted by a shop and let them give you an exact leak point.

You most likely do have a blown head gasket. You really don't need to see any of those symptoms. You lost your heat because you have air pockets and that is likely due to superheated combustion gases in the cooling system. You probably should do a chemical head gasket test to it.
