WHAT IS CAUSING MY CAR TO MISFIRE, AND CAUSING MY CAR TO SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IN ORDER TO KEEP MY CAR RUNNING WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP I MUST KEEP MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND THE BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME. AND THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT WHEN I PUT MY CAR INTO GEAR IT SHIFTS VERY RUFFLY.

For the stalling issues, check for vacuum leaks and check the idle air control valve (IAC). Also, scan the computer for trouble codes. As far as the shifting, scan the computer to see if there are any trouble codes related to the transmission. You could just have a bad shift solenoid. Keep in mind, I am assuming that the trans fluid is clean and full.

If you decide to have the computer scanned, most parts stores will do it for free.
