On my 1999 Mercury villager the lift front disc brake drags and the wheel gets very hot. I've have replaced the pads, caliper, and brake hose. Other than getting very hot it doesn't seem to pull to the left and stops fine. My next step is to replace the master cylinder and before I do is there something obvious that I'm overlooking?

I have two(2) 99 villagers with same problem. I already went to replacing parts that you've mentioned and more. I finally got them fixed my replacing the rear brake shoes. Apparently the previous owners installed low quality shoes and they stick to the drum. I bought mid grade shoes with guaranteed quietness quality from NAPA (29 bucks). Also check your wheel cylinders for locking up. If you don't fix this problem sooner, you're going to damaged your axle. Check if it's already damaged.

When the rear brake shoes don't re-tracked, the front break pads don't re-track and gets very hot. Replace all the rear brakes hardware while you're at it. You can buy the hardware kit for less than 15 bucks.
