Was it parked because it stopped running or was it running before it was parked? If this is a new problem since it was parked, suspect a locked-up fuel pump. Try banging on the bottom of the gas tank while a helper cranks the engine.

it was running before it was parked the reason it has been parked for a while, the car would not go into forward or reverse did not have the money to get it fixed so it has just been sitting i will raise the car and bang on the gas tank sound like a good idea and thanks back to the transmission i also dropped the pan and the oil was more of a black color it did not have a burned smell to it and about a cup fullor less of fine metal shavings any suggestions on a direction to take for the trans and I thank you

Given the age of the car you should have good luck finding a used transmission in a salvage yard. If you're between Ohio and southern Georgia, do a search for "Pull-A-Part" to see if there's a yard near you. Parts are real inexpensive. You throw your tool box in one of their wheel barrows, pay your buck, and you can spend all day there. Cars are already well-supported off the ground and they will drive around and help you haul big and heavy stuff. Employees and customers are very friendly too. My sheet is a few years old, but an automatic transmission, with a warranty, was $55.74 with the old one as a core.
