Use a multi meter and with it set on 24V or any setting above 16V probe main alternator wire with red lead(+) and place black lead(-) to a good ground you should have around 14.5 volts at a fast idle speed. Do not remove battery terminal while engine is running as you will get a voltage spike and possibly destroy the main ECU.
