1999 GMC Denali. I'm trying to program a new key fob. Everyone seems to agree that I should ground pin 4 to pin 8 on the Data Link Port to go into programming mode. Mine doesn't have a usable pin in slot 8. The "hold the unlock while on-off-on-off with the key" process also doesn't seem to work either. Any thoughts?

I have not. There have been several "key on, off, lock, hold this, hold that, dance, key on, push play on the CD, versions of solutions on the web (joking of course but sometimes it seems that way!). Tried them all. No positive results. Funny that you should ask now in that I accidentally took the one key set with a fob with me on a business trip. I'd kinda given up until yesterday. New thoughts!

Brianttt I was told that I would either have to have a dealer or a locksmith do this for me. Then I found a video of someone that had the right procedure. Tried it on my 99 Denali and it works.
1. Key in ignition in off position
2. Open driver door and remove radio fuse (number 17)
3. Get in vehicle and close door (have all key fobs that you have for the vehicle with you in the vehicle for the rest of this procedure as they will all be lost from programming in the vehicle computer when you enter program mode)
4. (This step is supposed to completed within a total of five seconds). Turn ignition on, off, on, off, on (leave on third time) you will hear the door locks and rear hatch cycle (you are now in program mode.
5. Hold the lock and unlock buttons down on the first fob to be programmed into your vehicles computer until you hear the door locks and hatch cycle.(May be as long as thirty seconds)
6. Repeat step 5 for each fob that you want to work with your vehicle
7. When all fobs are programmed into you vehicle turn the ignition switch back to the off position and replace the radio fuse. Test each fob, but should be good to go! Hope that got you done. It worked for me. Should also work on a 99 or 00 escalade as well.
