I have a 99 Ford F150 and the 8th # on VIN is "L". I have been told that only two certain # motors will be direct bolt in (specific # off of valve cover). Others have told me that as long as the 8th digit on VIN matches it will work. My concern is not wanting to have ECU, Trans, And accessories issues. Please if you answer this know the correct answer. I don't want to have more conflicting information. Thanks.

Additional Details
The current motor is 99 5.4 and the donor is out of a wrecked 01 that is a 5.4 as well (both SOHC). I was told that it had to be one of two engine codes only in order for there to not be any other parts needing changed, like ECU, MAP Sensor, Etc. Others have told me as long as it's SOHC and 5.4 there wont be any problems. Soooo Which is correct? I am past ready to buy this motor and dont want to pull the trigger if it will cause me to have to buy a ton of other parts to make it work. Please let me know ASAP as I dont want to loose this low mileage donor motor.

You need to strip the donor motor to a long block and switch eveything from your motor to the donor motor. It will not be a direct change over. You will need to change all your stuff to the donor motor
