- Enter a Question or Subject and Click Search -gear shift will not go in park are any gear it slide to the right and hard to get back into drive
Truck was in park tried to put in drive heard a POP and gear shift started to just slide would not go into any gear truck would not move.

sounds like the shift linkage retainer broke and needs to be replaced.

My sister has the 1999 expedition and the same thing happened to hers.I was living in a different state so i wasnt able to help her.But she said there is a plastic retainer that holds the shift linkage on the transmission that broke and thats what had to be replaced.She it was that expensive to repair and they took it to the dealer to be fixed.
