How to tell if you have a bent push rod on a 1999 ford expedition. had a chipped spark plug on #3 cylinder idles rough,skipping, lite ticking sound sometimes the brakes don't want to stop, all this started at the same time with with no warning.

I don't see how the brakes are related unless there is a vacuum leak to the brake booster. However, if you have a bent push rod, that cylinder will be low on compression. Check compression. Refer to our homepage under the DIY section for directions. If that cylinder is low on compression, it could be a bent rod, piston damage, cylinder damage, a bent valve...
