1999 Ford Escort Put New Engine Van 18 Diesel Endura Sure Timing Told Lock

i have put a new engine in my escort van 18 diesel endura engine but im not sure of timing . a was told to lock the pump and top n bottom pullys then it was timed the timing belt was already on as it is new ish but needed to put my pump on it .so i did but couldnt find top lock hole so it was tdc pump was locked will this start?????
