1999 Fiat Punto Repair Question

I have a Fiat punto van 1700 turbo diesel T reg.Took it out the other day...cut out on motorway and would not start! Towed back!Tried to start it but now it will not!!Timing belt seems to be intact; just seemed sluggish turning over.
What do you think the problem might be?

do you have fuel at the injectors, crack an injector line and crank over engine, do you get fuel pulsing?
